We've been using Suburban Propane for several years and each year they try to price gouge us. We check with other propane companies, get prices, and then argue with Suburban who then lowers their price to within a few cents of the other companies.
We purchase propane using the "pre-purchase" program. Last year their truck filled up our tank above and beyond what we had already payed for. They wanted to charge us $4.00 per gallon. We objected and told then to remove the propane.instead we began to receive past due notices and finally a threat to turn us into collections. We finally ended up paying them at the "pre-purchase" price.
We are going to change to another company and Suburban says that our contract says we must receive one fill-up. They want $4.00 for 600 gallons. We're not going to give that to them and they'll fine their tank sitting on the ground next to the new one.
We've filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission to look into the business practices of this company. If you have or have had problems with Suburban Propane you should do the same.
