EAGLE WINGS LODGE HOCKING HILLS OHIO
This place may be beautiful but if youre concerned with how you will be treated then I would go elsewhere.
My fianc and I are both in the military, I am active duty Army and he is active duty Air force. We saw this lodge because my family is all from Ohio and my sister suggested that I take a look at their site. So when I did I was speechless by how beautiful the lodge was. I immediately started to get things set into action to rent the lodge for 2 days and invite our family there to stay with us and come to our wedding ceremony. I started calling to inquire about the lodge on January 25th and spoke to a gentleman by the name of Matt Lewis, he informed me that the lodge was set up to accommodate 20 people and any additional over that limit would be $50 per person per night. I informed him that I was thinking about trying to have my wedding ceremony there and that we would probably have 26 people there MAX. He then told me that due to their policies and regulations they do not allow weddings on their property but that I was more than welcome to have the ceremony somewhere else and still rent the lodge. After that he also told me that in March they would be opening up their tree house which sleeps 6 people comfortably and has electricity but no running water or restroom. That the price for that would be $125 a night, so after hearing that I figured that since we were looking at having 26 people then it might be a good idea to get the tree house as well. When I had the funds to go ahead and make the reservation to secure our dates and start to plan our wedding I had another question so I called the lodge again. This time it was a man by the name of Tom that I spoke to who later identified himself as the owner. He went over how beautiful the lodge was and when I asked about the wedding ceremony he informed me that I COULD have the ceremony on their property since I had such a small group, he told me that if I wanted a wedding planner that Kimberly was great and it would just be $200 to have her work out the details for me. I told him I was also interested in renting the tree house per the conversation with Matt Lewis but that I was unsure of how many people I would have attending until I received RSVPs for our wedding. He told me to go ahead on the website and make the reservation and just put in the comments that I would most likely be wanting to rent the tree house but the payment for that would be due at a later date once I knew if I would even need it or not. I told him that the wedding planner would not be necessary but after speaking to him I felt confident that this was the lodge that we wanted to rent. So, I went onto their website and I put in the reservation information including my payment information. After a couple of hours (on February 5th) I got a phone call from a women named Kimberly, she called to tell me that I was again misinformed by both the manager (Matt) and the owner (Tom) and that the $200 fee was just to have the wedding on their premises, she told me the wedding planner (which is her) would be an additional $150. She then told me that the payment for the tree house would be due before she could process our reservation as well. I told her I had spoke to Tom and he told me that the money for that wouldnt be due until a later date, seeing as the lodge fits 20 people I couldnt see paying for the tree house yet since we are only sending out invitations to 26 people so if 6 of them had not been able to make it then the tree house would not be necessary. She told me that since I was expecting a possible 26 that I would need to pay for the tree house now and if it went unused they would reimburse me the money. Which is an additional $300 on top of the $1650 I was already paying for the lodge, then they wanted $200 just to have the wedding ceremony on the property. They said they had to charge the additional $200 for the liabilities of having the wedding there, but no one additional over the people who would be staying at the lodge would even be attending. So basically they wanted me to pay $200 extra just for the people Im already paying for. After getting off the phone with her I called Matt whom I spoke to with Tom sitting right next to him and Matt told me due to so much miscommunication on their part they would allow me to use the tree house for free for the two days that I rented the lodge. I was satisfied with that answer and told him to go ahead and charge my account for the reservation. He told me Kimberly (who was very rude in our first conversation) would be contacting me to process the payment. So today February 8th I tried to give Kimberly a call to see when she would be taking the payment so I can plan my budget as well. She told me that I needed to wait for Tom to contact me, that its best if I wait to speak to him first. So I said okay, can you just process my payment and I will wait for him to call me, she told me she could not process anything and again to just wait for Tom to call me, that she was sure he would get back to me by the close of business today. So my fianc gets an email saying that our reservation was cancelled due to someone else booking the lodge for full price (Mind you we were booking the lodge for September 15 and 16th 2010 on a Wed, and Thurs, so how convenient someone else was able to book it when we already had those dates showing as reserved on their website). About 30 mins after the email was received I get a call from Tom saying that they are sorry but they are unable to rent the lodge to us due to someone else coming in and wanting those dates for full price. The only discount we asked for was a Military discount, so youre telling me that these people rented the lodge to someone else because they didnt want to give us a 10% military discount!!! I think its sad that such a beautiful lodge is run by such poor management. They are rude, deceptive, and unprofessional! I highly recommend you check out the other lodges in the area to avoid all of the hassle they put me through!
