I wanted to raise awareness of a very serious safety issue on Kenmore/Frigidaire electric ranges. We are currently experiencing an issue with our Smooth Top Cook Range where a front element turns onto full heat regardless of whether or not the element controller is turned to Low, Medium, or High. What makes this even worse is that the element now comes onto full heat on its own, WITH THE ELEMENT CONTROLLER TURNED OFF. We try to shut off the range from the breaker, only to have the element turn back on as soon as we switch the breaker back. We have almost had burn damage to our home and have a small child in the house.
My issue is that Frigidaire has issued a product recall on approximately 200,000 of these ranges. The recommend an immediate cease of use due to the serious potential danger of home damage and/or bodily harm. Unfortunately for us, along with many others, our specific Model Number is not included in the recall. Despite having all the same dangers and all the same symptoms, they are refusing to expand the recall unless enough customers come forward with the same Model Number. They are entirely uncaring of the safety of their consumers and the potential lawsuit that this might generate. I cannot think of a more irresponsible response to such a major risk. All have passed us off and said they can't do anything to assist us. We have had to call Sears repair on our range in order to protect our daughter and they are charging us $300 for a repair. I'm at my wits end and will appreciate any help that you can give me. Whether it's assisting us with getting the recall expanded - maybe a call for other customers to come forward. Maybe it's a chance to recoup some of the money we had to spend, money that we don't have to spend as my husband has been laid off. If our home burns down, if my child gets hurt, I will not hesitate to sue this irresponsible, unresponsive, company for everything I can get.
