I received a positive response to an anonymous employment ad on Craig's list. Before sending further information, went to the web to research them. When I came upon difficulty finding and accessing the website, I looked here and found this list. Upon reading the reports, I found key phrases and processes for getting further information that appears to be nothing but bad news.
I went back to check the emailed response and found no return link on the incoming email address, no address or phone for the company only a fax, their website being hosted by a company that hosts many other worthless job sites and it was 'appearing' as I was repeatedly trying to access it. There were 'Belize' references, as well as others that I see in some of the posts here. Looks like they changed the name and target location but the program is the same.
I'm sure I'll be receiving lots of spam shortly and hope that I'm well enough protected to prevent other difficulties while I continue to job hunt. I've included below the body of the email response I received in hopes it will help someone else avoid problems.
"Thank you for emailing us regarding our recent job opening on craigslist. I briefly checked over your resume and it appears that you have the qualities we are looking for to fill this position. However before we continue could you forward me over a background check and reference? Make sure you blank out your social security number and date of birth for security purposes. If you need a free background check, visit the free background report website http://www.ptacorpassociates.com/offer and just print it out and email it to us. If you would like to send your report via fax, send it to (811) 960. Your credit score and background check isn't factored into you getting the job, it is only used as an outlined for reliability. For your reference, please give me the number of someone I can call and just ask a couple of questions about you regarding character and work ethic. A former employer, co woker, teacher, relative, or friend is fine. Thanks!"
