Received a "paycheck" with a one page explaining I had been selected to be a Secret Shopper for Consumer Monitoring & Research Group - A Division of F&R Best Quality Inc. The check was for $4,888.00. The check was payable in my name but drawn from a third company: Merryweather Foam Inc.in Ohio.
I read the letter and saw several spelling and syntax errors. One of the Secret Shopper tasks was to use Western Union or Money Gram to wire $3,988.00 from the check back to the employer. This sent off the fraud alarm.
They offered $600 weekly for the secret shopping work. This first job is considered your interview based on how quickly you complete the assignment.
There is a Merryweather Foam company in Ohio, but no mention of affiliation with F&R anywhere on their website.
There is a heating and cooling company called F&R Best Quality in Abilene with no association made to Consumer Monitoring on their website.
The phone number given on the letter is in Montreal, Canada. I also found the website for the bank the check is drawn from and plan on calling them to verify the account and/or warn them of the scam. I am also going to look up the phone numbers for Merryweather and F&R to see if I can contact them.
