My mother shipped a large box containing gifts for family members in China last week. The 'box' was delivered but an expensive cosmetic gift box was missing as well as the outside box got replaced with a much larger box which resulted in some minor damaged to a few items inside the box.
I believe the shipping company is responsible for such bad practice. If you want to ship precious items to China, don't ever use this company!
