Despite an international and national outcry and a growing stain on our countrys reputation, the Canadian government continues to allow a handful of commercial sealers to slaughter tens of thousands of baby seals every year by bashing in their heads with clubs or shooting them. Sealers hook baby seals in the eye, cheek or mouth to avoid damaging their fur and then drag them across the ice-often while they are still conscious. Many seals are too young to swim away from their attackers and are killed-42 percent skinned while still alive, as their mothers look on helplessly. Over 70 percent of Canadians want this slaughter to end. This is a commercial slaughter and has nothing to do with the Aboriginal lifestyle.
The commercial slaughter on the Eastern Coast exports baby seal fur. It is legalized animal abuse and outrageously inhumane by our Canadian government. Shame on Canada and our uncivilized and cruel politicians!
