Lanlords beware: We met some friends online and after 2 years of being online friends we made plans to meet this couple. We met them for lunch one day and my husband and I both felt they were good people (how wrong we were). The wife has had multiple mental health issues in the past and the husband was down on his luck (we didnt realize this was because he wanted it that way). We offered them our rental house until they could get on their feet. The plan was that they would move in and pay 500.00 a month for a few months until he could get established with a job. After he got to work he was to pay the mortgage of 800.00 per month. The wife draws a disability check each month and the husband had been running an online website and earning around 800.00 a month. We felt we could help this couple and their son who was 12 at the time. My husband and I moved them out of the dump they were living in into a 2400 square foot brick home, bought them a new kitchen table and home essentials, took their son back to school shopping, got them established in the home etc. We left the electric and water in our name so that they wouldnt have to pay deposits etc. All total this cost us around 1000.00 to get them moved and settled. The whole time my husband and I are thinking we are doing a good deed, helping someone else out and all the time thinking they were going to live up to their end of the bargain. About 1 month after they moved in he still hadnt got a job so we are beginning to wonder. Then... His 2 grown son's, granddaughter and his daughter in law show up and move in. Now we have 5 adults and 2 kids living in our rental home. So we think okay... These people will all work and they shouldnt have any trouble paying the rent etc. It was one excuse after another on why they couldnt or didnt, the electric company was always calling cause they were late on the bill etc. After 9 months of my husband and I trying to pay 2 mortgages we decided to let the property go into foreclosure. We notified Michael and Kathy in February of this decision. It is now November and they are still in the house. They basically have lived there for free since February. They still are not working and basically their philosophy is this... We will just stay until the bank throws us out. They are getting over 1000.00 a month in food stamps, medicaid, drawing disability and who knows what else. They have trashed the home completely and when you go into the house you are immediately hit with a strong odor (body odor i think). Do not rent to these people and for sure dont let them have utiliities in your name. My husband and I have been stuck paying 350.00 for a light bill and 169.00 for a water bill. Thanks
