After my father's recent death, I was contacted by Five Star Associates and informed that I had "inherited" his membership to the RV Resort Camping company. Apparently he signed the membership agreement with his now deceased wife back in 1994. This is a company that owns or handles RV camping resorts and allows members access to them (I assume) and gives preferential booking treatment of some sort. Whatever. I have no interest in it whatsoever, and have signed nothing.
I was told that if I wanted to terminate the "membership", I would have to pay $1485 plus back-owed membership dues ($299). According to them, this is a "three-generational" membership which automatically carries on to the next generation after the initial member dies. I know that my father would never have signed anything like this had it been made clear to him.
This whole thing sounds like a huge scam to me, and apparently, having looked it up on the Net, I am not the only one who has been caught up in it.
