I went to GovernmentRegistry.org, which seemed like a trustworthy reliable website, to get a background check on someone. Their name and city came up in the search asking me to purchase their available records. It took me to CIS Nationwide and after I purchased an account with "unlimited searches" I found I was duped! The person who showed up in the list previously was no longer available.
There was a dollar amount balance on the screen and every time a search yield a list of names it would charge my account to see the list of names, regardless if they were the names I was looking for. Every action I took I was charged. I couldn't even view the search results to see if the person I was looking for was in the list without being charged and so I was never able to get far enough to see if the background check information was even legit.
It was a complete scam and I fell for it. I felt embarrassed that I was a victim of online fraud after years of teaching others how to use the internet safely and securely. I knew the warning signs, I read their terms and conditions and yet I saw no red flags. I was scammed out of $50!!
