Mcdonald's poor customer service

Approximately 5:10pm I waited patiently in line at the McDonald's in Union Station - Washington, DC. An employee instructed customers to move to another cash register because her line was closing. I was the first person to wait in the new line for someone to come and open the register and take my order.

I noticed several employees making small talk near the register and at the front for several minutes while no one acknowledged customers waiting. Finally the one of the same cashiers making small talk finally came over to open the register but had an attitude. She opened the register and just looked at me with a glare... I took that to mean she was ready to take my order. I feel that she sensed that customers in her line were annoyed with the long wait for her to open the register at the suggestion of another employee.

Once I placed my order for an iced coffee she walked to the back of the store for what I assume to make the coffee. I look at the customer behind me and shook my head because I felt she intentially was taking a long time.

While I understand there may have been reasons for the employee to work at a snails pace... I personally feel that her choice in doing so was because she did not value me as a customer because I am an African American. I do not deserve nor do I expect to receive poor customer service by employees who under value my time.

I chose to walk away and not wait any longer for the employee to returen because I also was concerned that she may do something to my coffee. I could not see the employee prepare the coffee and did not want that feeling of anxiety with something I have to consume. I chose to instead walk down to Starbucks and pay twice the amount for a cup of coffee with better customer service.

I wanted to address this issue with hopes that staff at this location are trained to know that all customers should be treated with respect.
