Watch out for college kids selling magazines! I bought a magazine from a college kid and paid with a check. I thought it was fishing when a the number (602) 867-4700. They would not leave a message. I finally answered and they said the magazine will start and offered other discount services. I said no (as you should always answer these people).
6 months later they call my wife with a "deal on magazines". She agrees without giving any credit card or financial information. That's a big red flag to me! An invoice arrives a few days later. It turns out that they want $194 for 3 magazine subscriptions to be conveniently debited from our checking account! We cancel immediately.
The next day we receive a membership packet from United Benefit Advantage. They also want to debit our checking account for $24.95/month for some worthless coupons! We cancelled them too.
What's really weird is that the cancellation numbers from both of these companies were pretty close which makes me think they are one and the same company!
I haven't seen any unauthorized debits from our checking account, but it's still too early to tell. Don't trust these companies. They keep your credit card and checking account numbers!!! Best thing to do if they take any money is to have the bank change your account numbers.
