Reset diagnostic codes and sold defective vehicle

On December 31 I purchased a 2002 Saturn SC1 Coupe from Saturn of Plano. There were no apparent problems with the car. The salesman assured me that the car had no problems, was in good condition and would last me a very long time. After driving it for approximately two weeks the 'check engine' light came on. I took the car back to Saturn of Plano to have them check to see what was causing the light to come on and repair as needed.
The service department took the car into a bay, opened the hood, made some kind of adjustment and then reported to me that 'the light is now off, and this car just needs to be driven more on the highway... That's all it needs'.

I drove the car for another few weeks until the check engine light came on again. Following their instructions, I drove it as much as possible on the highway in hopes the light would go off. It never did go off.

After moving to another city about 20 miles away from Plano, I took the car to a reputable repair company here in McKinney, TX. To have them check the reason why the light was still on constantly.

This repair/service company ran a diagnostic engine analysis and provided the following information to me:
Has codes #P0410 secondary air injection system,
#P0420 Catalyst efficiency low bank one,
#P1599 CC power management mode or engine stall,
#P1624 PCM ram performance. They also reported to me that these codes had been cleared 7 previous times to reset the 'check engine' light so it would not come on. They said that the problem stemed from the catalytic converter and that it would cost approximately $600 to $1,200 to repair it. Now knowing that the problem would trigger the engine light to come on, and that the the system had been manually reset 7 previous times to turn the light off, I went back to Saturn of Plano to ask why they had sold me a car with a defective cataylitic converter as indicated by the diagnostic codes.

Mike Walker and Rene Sawyer of Saturn of Plano said the car was sold 'as is' and they would do nothing to correct the problem. I think this is fraud in that their service department knew of the problem before it was sold to me, and that they purposefully reset the diagnostic codes to disguise the problem. That action was an intentional deceipt to represent the car as having no problems. I cannot sell the car now unless this problem is permanently fixed, and Saturn of Plano will not fix the real problem with the car. When I mentioned an attorney they said they would not even talk to me.
I would never have bought the car knowing of this problem, cannot afford to fix the problem, cannot afford an attorney and cannot sell the car as is. And it will not pass inspection with the problem until it is fixed.

I would never recommend anyone doing business with Saturn of Plano, or any dealer who intentionally deceives a customer in the fraudulent manner Saturn of Plano and their representitives have acted. This has and continues to cause me a great amount of emotional stress.

I would appreciate any feedback from individuals, especially lawyers, who may help me.
