According to the Better Business Bureau for Northwest North Carolina, this company has a history of complaints & "an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau."
Here is a portion of their report:
"The Better Business Bureau has received complaints regarding selling practices and billing or credit practices. The company sells a 'business communications' directory through telemarketing. The complaints concern invoicing for unordered, unauthorized or unreceived directories. Consumers have indicated, in many instances, the company alluded to calling for the purpose of up-dating a previous or existing directory listing. The impression given was that of confirming information, not placing an order. The company has responded to complaints presented by the Better Business Bureau. The company states it makes a follow-up call to confirm the order and that those calls are recorded."
I fell for the "renewal" line & agreed to be recorded, thinking I could always cancel after I checked with the rest of our office staff.
When we recieved a bill for $299, I called immediately to cancel. I was told this was not possible, but they could play the recording for verification. The recording conveniently does not include the lie they told about the order being "a renewal of an existing 2-year order".
