The HughesNet plan that I prepay for is called the ProPlus plan, at a cost of $79.99 per month, which they advertise at a speed of 1.6Mbps. Too often people don’t realize that’s quite a large number, written out it’s about 1,600, 000 bits per second. That seems like a lot, but when you figure an average web page like amazon.com contains about 1,200, 000 bits, the number doesn’t seem so large anymore. When you pay for a service that is supposed to give you 1,600, 000 bits per second and you really get 256,000 bits per second (256Kbps), and I’m being generous with that number I usually average much slower speeds, you realize that you are not getting even close to what you are paying for. I have even documented my speeds at hughesnet-internet.com if you think I'm exaggerating check it out. HughesNet has the nerve to use the tag line “Broadband Unbound”, if that isn’t false advertising, I don’t know what is.
