Seriously who does thier accounting? Nearly lost my home due to LACK of customer service

I have had a mortgage with Chase since I got behind on my home in 2007. After trying to request a repayment and faxing all requested documentation 4 TIMES (over 3 months) I recieved no response from Chase. Always told in was in progress or I needed to send information in. But I aways had to call... Chase never called me. Then one of my payments was returned. Seriously, they mailed the entire check back to me and refused to take any payment!!! It was an entire payment not a partial. I was totally confused. Then I recieved a call from my father asking me why my name was in the paper as having a suit filed against me by chase.

My house was in FORECLOSURE and I had NEVER even been notified (I was still trying to get a payment plan up and running)!! I live in a different state than my house is in (we are a military family) and my family told me a Sherriff's sale had been posted on the door! I was in complete shock. After several time wasting calls I finally called my VA representative (since this is a VA loan) and amazingly he was able to get a plan approved and running with in 72 hours (Chase even next day aired the paperwork?!?!?).

So this March I finally made my final repayment plan payment (which had been nearly DOUBLE payments) and my account is current YAY! Well that was the feeling for 45 days or so... We recieved an updated escrow analysis and of course my payment increased (362.00!!) but we were still happy to be on the right side of our payments so my April payment went through without issue but as I go to make my May payment it is 515 dollars more than it should be. They said I owed an outstanding late fee that was charged 30 Mar 09. My question is from what?

In April the account was current and the statement reflected that so where did this 991.31 late fee come from??? And someone please tell me what kind of late fee is 991.31??? Which looking over my transaction history I have been charged several times but its not the highest the highest is 1400?!?! I was not provided any. I repeat any statements during my 2 yr repayment plan and when I asked for one I was told they do not provide statements to deliquent customers and I could request a statement of account (every time I requested I was funneled into customer service hell no one knew what I was asking for or who created it) eventually my 2 hr call would end in a recorded voice stating "I am sorry we can not continue processing your call please hang up" and then it would promptly disconnect me.

So again, today I tried finding out what this late fee was and get my current payment due amount corrected and I spoke to 3 different people. The first rep told me I had 991.31 (hey wasn't that the amount of the late fee??!) sitting in a suspense account... I told her I had no Idea what a "suspense" account was and she told me "thats where we put money we've collected but don't know what to do with"... I am thinking what. Seriously. But she seen that I had been charged a 991.31 late fee and the bank had forgiven 569. Dollars of it but i still owed the remaining 400 (being the reason why my payment was so high) again I asked why there was a late fee charged and she said I would have to talk to the homeowners assistance department since they are the ones who would have posted it so she transferred me (at this point I have learned to request a direct number before allowing a transfer... Disconnections happen ALL THE TIME)

So 15 minutes later someone picks up and immediately tells me they don't handle my loan and they are transferring me... I had to cut her off and tell her to listen first, I explained the above (another 15-20 minutes) and she said in her screen I was current and the payment due was my regular payment so she transferred me to the Bank owned department (seriously 25 minutes on hold before they picked up) and I went through the whole story again and at first he told me he also seen that my normal payment was all that was due (no late fee) but he only seen 50.in the suspense account... So frustrated... I said I don't know what to pay! I just got on the right side of this mortgage and I don't want to mess up a payment.

He said "let me check one more screen" and there he saw the 991 in the suspense account, the 400 late fee and said he was sorry but I did owe the larger payment and then he said "Shoot! Ma'am, I am sorry its 8 and our system just rebooted and it will take about 10 minutes to come back up I will call you back." I said it took nearly 2 hrs to get to him and he said I have both contact numbers here I will call you in 10 minutes. Yeah you know what happened... I tried calling back. Their closed... So I'll try again tommorrow.

I have given them thousands of $ and tried to live up to my end of the mortgage but I have no idea where all that money went or what they did with what they charged in fees (8,000 dollars worth) and I am still trying to keep my head above water. If any one has had any success in dealing with a real estate attorney or getting Chase to provide you with full disclosure of fees assessed PLEASE let me know.
