I received a letter in the mail for debt consoludation from Freedom Financial Management. I had about $10,500.00 in credit card debt and contacted Freedom for assistance. Freedom stated to me that they could get my debt to $7,000.00 dollars over a period of a year and a half. I would pay them $400.00 dollars a month which would go into an account and the creditors would be paid in one lump sum and that my credit score would not be effected. When I began the program I received a welcome package and phone calls from my representitive who stated she was Naomi, a lawyer that works with Freedom. After a few months of payments I received several past due notices from my creditors and I contacted Freedom. Freedom advised me to ignore the letters and fax them to their business and that they would contact them to stop sending me bills. Against what they advised me, I contacted my creditors and they all advised me that Freedom only contacted them once, by mail.
I again contacted Freedom, who take out their percentage from the first few payments, and was not contacted back. After about thirty phone calls over a period of a week I was contacted by Joyce who told me she was working with my file. I asked what had happened to Noami and she did not have an answer for me. Joyce never answered any of my questions directly and later ignored evrey call I made to her. Prior to this Joyce stated that she did not work for free and asked me if I did. I got a summons in the mail advising me I was being sued and when I contacted Freedom they stated they could not gaurentee that I would not get sued.
I was contacted by Cindy, who after several minutes of speaking did not resolve any questions or concerns I had. She then told me that she was trying not to lose her patience with me. She requseted an additional $7,100.00 in lieu of going to court. I stated no and advised her that that would be more then my original debt and she said she knows and that Freedom was working very hard to settle my debt. She later told me that if I dropped the program I would not receive their fee back. I asked her if she was a lawyer or anyone was and she stated she was not and no one in the company was, they were debt consoltants.
I asked if I should hire a lawyer and she laughed stating that it would only benifit me to stay on the program. I have since not received any phone calls back. I contacted and left messages with every number and extension that they provided which coinsidently all go through the Joyce's voicemail.
A friend of mine is currently working with the program and called while I was at his house. It is the begining stages and they call him regularly to assure him that they are there to help (but they have not received their full fee yet). Please do not use this company. Contact your creditors on your own to lower your debt. I have more debt then when I started and my credit score is destroyed.
