Back in November I look'd on Craigslist for a motor for my boat. I replyed to a posting for a 98 Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec LONGBLOCK with 70 hrs. Of freshwater use for $ 550. I ask'd if it was still available & got a email from [email protected] saying YES IT IS. We emailed back & forth & I told him I had to check with the MERCRUISER DEALER to see if a 98 would fit in my 95 Sea Ray, He emailed me back & said YES IT WILL FIT as long as mine had a Electric fuel pump (which it does). He emailed me his Phone # (908-619-7905). I called him & he then told me the motor had 360 hrs. On it but if I WAS GOING TO KEEP IT HE HAD ANOTHER 98 Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec LONGBLOCK WITH 120 HRS. On it for $ 700 & it ran great. I needed a motor so I agreed.
I ask'd him how much to install the motor in my boat & he said it will be $ 200 EVERTHING INCLUDED (GASKET'S, GIMBLE BEARING, OIL, FILTER'S, EVERYTHING I NEED TO GET IT RUNNING. Again I agreed, WHAT A BIG MISTAKE. We talk back & forth & he emailed me his address (28 Roosevelt ave. Hackettstown, NJ) where to drop it off on Sunday 11/16/09. Me & my friend dropped the boat off to Joe & we all talked for about 45 mins. & he told me he would email me a RECEIPT as he did not have any with him. I asked him if he needed the boat trailer Registration, he said NO since the shop was in town (I FOUND OUT THE SHOP WAS THE HOUSE), I asked him if I could follow him to the shop & he said he was not going there right now, HE WAS GOING TO CHURCH WITH HIS FAMILY. He told me the boat would be done the following Friday/saturday the latest.
I called him the following Sunday & left a message, On Wednesday I called him & he said it was almost done all he had to do was go to the MARINA HE OWN'S UP IN SYRACUSE, NY to get A Exhaust Manifold since 1 of mine was cracked (he showed me that when I dropped off the boat & told me it was included with the price) & it would be done by the following Wednesday. Well the following Wednesday came & I called him & he then told me he had to check & see if THEY TOOK THE OLD MOTOR OUT YET, I said you TOLD ME THE NEW ONE WAS IN ALREADY, HE REPLYED I THINK IT IS & AGAIN IT WOULD BE DONE THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY AGAIN. The following Wednesday came & I called him & he said it would be done by Saturday as he was on his way down from Syracuse & he was going to work on it. I called him on saturday & left a message.
Sunday came & I called him & left another message, on sunday afternoon he called me & said that his mechanic had about 2 hrs. More of work to put the accessorie's back on & run it, but the mechanic was in Bearndsville, NJ winterizing a few boats & as soon as he was done he would have him FINISH MINE & what was the Latest I could pick it up & I said 8 pm, he said it would be done. He called me at 7 pm & said that he was on his way down from Syracuse, NY & he was GOING TO WORK ALL NIGHT LONG IF HE HAD TO TO GET IT DONE & TO CALL HIM MONDAY MORNING AT 9 AM. I said fine but it better be done, he siad it will be. I asked for the address of the shop & he said he would have to call someone to get the address. I called him at 9 am on Monday & left a message that I was heading up towards Hackettstown, NJ. He called me back about 10:45 am & said he was trying to get a hold of someone to meet me & give me the boat as he was still up in Syracuse, NY, I asked him if it wa sdone & HE SAID NO, BUT I COULD BRING IT BACK & HE WOULD FINISH IT. I said no you didn't finish it in the first place & all you do is lie to me, he said i never lied to you (bulls*t). I told him i wanted my money & boat back he said no & he would put a mechanic lien on it, i told him he couldn't as i already paid him & that i was recording everything & i was going to the police. He said he would have to get the address & call me back.
I went to the Hackettstown, NJ Police dept. & was told the address where I dropped the boat off at was in Independence Twp. So I would have to go to the Independence Twp. Police Dept. Which I did. When I was talking to the Police Officer about what was going on Joe called me, I gave the phone to the Officer, when he was done he gave the phone back to me. Joe told me outright that if i push this & file criminal charge's against him that i would never see my boat, money or new motor again. I SAID THEN JUST TELL ME WHERE MY BOAT IS & GIVE ME MY MONEY & I WILL FORGET ABOUT ALL THIS, HE SAID NO!
I signed the Complaint against him (Theft by Deception CRIMINAL CHARGE'S) He finally told me he had someone drop the boat off at the house where i dropped it at. I went there & hooked my boat up & looked inside & the MOTOR WAS STRIPPED. I called him & asked where my parts where, he siad i don't know maybe they are on the new motor, he would have to call the mechanic j to see. One of his neighbor's were passing when I was trying to turn around down the street and told me THAT THE BOAT NEVER LEFT THE HOUSE IT'S BEEN THERE SINCE I DROPPED IT OFF & THE WHOLE FAMILY ARE SCAMMER'S.
I called joe back again & he told me he would drop the new motor off at my house on thursday, i said no your not as soon as i leave i will never hear from you again, he said come on i'm not like that (bullshit). He never called me or answered any of my message evevn to this day (3/25/09). He still post on craigslist so i had my friend reply to one of his postings & got a new phone # (908-813-9731) & address (74 barkers mill road hackettstown, nj) which i gave to the police since i had to sign criminal theft charge's against him. He had a court date in february but never showed up & no warrant was issued (i can only guess why, must know someone). Now he has a new court date in april (let's see if he show's up). I asked why no warrant was issued & was told the court clerk refused to issue one.
This guy post on 2 of craigslist area's, 1 in north jersey & 1 in syracuse, ny. Just dealing with this piece of s*t, i know how he words thing's. I posted on craigslist & i seen so did other's with anyonewith info. On dealing's with this guy. I got a few email's already. I was told by the court clerk & police officer that he has a bad history up there (hackettstown). Will see what happens. Anyone with any info on the theif please respond. Thank you jim.
