This company goes around buying smaller trucking companies, and then using the small companies as "termanials" for Link America.
I was hired in Jan of this year as an OTR driver out of the Wisconsin Terminal.
I was told to go to Granite City, Il. For orientation (old Dannie Gilder trucking company) I finished orientation, and now the Saga begins.
I was told that I would be riding with driver from wi. Terminal back to wi to pick up my truck, then found out there would also be 1 other guy riding back. So we start back and have to stop for the night. Company will not pay for motel, so all 3 of us have to bunk down in a 2 bunk truck. Lotsa fun right?
Next day at a truckstop in Il. While eating breakfast we get a phone call and told not to leave, that a "manager" was on the way to meet with us. A while latey this guy arrives and informs all 3 of us that we will be assigned to the Mike Brooks trucking terminal in Iowa, and we will be running auto parts from Minnapolis to Kansas City period.
So im into my 3rd day, don't even have a truck assigned to me yet and they are changing me from OTR to regional auto parts. I told them I was going to quit right then. I then got a call from Tulsa home office that I could stay OTR if I felt that strongly about it.
Later that day I finally got my truck and started out on my new job. I had some mechanical problems with the truck, but other than that things went well (I thought) for about a week.
During orientation, I filled out paperwork for Direct Deposit, was told it would take a few weeks, but no problems. Time for first payday, and I find out that the check was sent to the wrong address in a different city from where I live. So they had to stop payment on it (settlements dept. It gets more screwed up from here on out). They put $ on my Fuel Card to pay me for that screw up. Pay is now 2 weeks behind.
I paid my own way to orientation and was told I would be reimbursed for that and for the Motel room I paid for. Reciepts were sent during orientation, and I still (2 months later) have not seen the money.
The first week I got over 2000 miles, for the next 7 weeks it was all down hill, I was luckey to get 1200 to 1500 miles. But I did get a newer truck assigned to me.
Second paycheck, oops nothing there, so I call settelments, guess what, W-4 was filled out wrong by orientation personell, so Im not getting a check, till we fax new w-4. No problem, faxed it right now, so where's my money?" We will put that on your next check, bucause we can't cut a check between paydays". RIGHT...
Third paycheck $ 0.0 Whats up?" You know those $100.00 advances you have been getting? Well we decided to take 3 weeks worth of them all out of your check at one time". SURE YOU DID.
Forth check. $58.00, NUFF SAID
Now it gets good folks.
New 2009 Freightshaker starter decides to short out while Im tooling down the highway, and great gobs of smoke come out from under hood, and volts go to Zero I call the Link America Company Hotline for Repairs, and they call a tow truck to tow me to the nearest Freightliner dealer for repairs. GREAT.
Freightliner does not have a starter for a 2009 Columbia with a Detroit engine in stock. They also inform me I can't stay in the truck while it is awaiting repairs on their lot.
I called Link America, and they put some money on the fuel card for the motel
ITS THEIR TRUCK, RIGHT?
Two days later the repairs are made. Link america mechanical department issues a po# for the repairs and i pay for my motel bill and leave town.
Time for next paycheck. No check, whats up? Oh we decided to make sure all our people are paid on the same pay period, so to adjust them to all be the same we had to hold out another week so everyone could be paid on the same day. Were we supposed to let you know we were going to do that? Noooooo, after all you are just a driver.
Time for next check, $0.0, what happened? Oh, well you know we advanced you x$ for that motel room, so now we took it back because we haven't got a reciept yet. Paid motel room with a company com check. But we will have it stright next payday... Uh hu
Next payday, last week. $0.0, this time we deducted advances, and oh you know that starter we paid to get replaced. Well we took that money out of your check because we have not gotten a reciept for it..???
Link america company owned truck, link america mechanical dept. Authorized repair, and issued the po#, and i pay for it... Last straw
As i said at the beginning run from this company and all their lesser minions, as fast as you can go unless you want to pay them for the prevelege of driving their pos trucks
The office staff knows you are all a bunch of dirty greasy uneducated peon lowlife drivers.
Thank god and greyhound/amtrak, im gone
