I do not have very much money but the blue santa program, and the brown santa program are the only two charities i believed in and supported since the time 1993 when i was patrolling bergstrom air force base in austin, texas during the transition from it being an active air force base to the civilian airport.
Blue santa is sponsored by the austin police department and in spite of the horrific harassment they give private security officers, they do try to do something for the most needy amongst us — our kids.
Brown santa is sponsored by the travis county sheriff's department and they do the same for the kids in the county who are not in the austin city limits.
Both groups were using hangars at bergstrom when i was there and i saw the brown santa volunteers going in the dumpster and removing the slightly used plush toys that the blue santa folks put in there. It broke my heart to think about those little kids with nothing at christmas so i spent half of my paycheck for toys and nonperishable clothes and food for each program. The kids can't help it. They deserve something nice at christmas. I regret that i can't help them the rest of the year but now i am doing good to have a place to stay that has electricity. I missed a few meals getting things for those kids but i felt the sacrifice was worth it.
I was a kid myself and we sometimes had no money to eat so i knew how those kids felt.
Every year i could, i bought things for those kids and gave to both programs. And i missed more than a few meals so i could do it. I don't believe in christmas but i do believe in kids.
That is why when i heard about the pinche chicano cabron (i know what the word really means, not just the academic, white liberal translation) who stole $1,000 worth of wal-mart gift cards last year i figured that one theft in several years is inevitable. He was the treasurer of the blue santa board of directors for goodness sale and his father was an honest and honorable man.
But then, a few days ago, i heard about this white lady who was apparently on the blue santa board of directors. She was the vice president and she resigned in 2005. Seems she misappropriated a check meant for blue santa and she put $8,500 in her own bank account.
Here is a lady who is president of a company and she is married and owns her own home and doesn't even live in austin but rockdale, tx.
And she needs to steal from poor kids?
She took the money in 2005 —the audit proved it and all she is going to be charged with is a jail felony theft for two years —which will probably put her own probation!
I tried to find her business but was unable to find a listing for it in the phone book.
What gets me is it took them four years to find the theft???
I was giving money and toys to both groups in 2005!
I was missing meals so she could steal money! I consider the money being stolen by the kids.
You can better believe that i will only be donating to brown santa from now on.
Were all these board members stealing?
How many of them haven't been caught yet or were caught and paid back the money or risk the shame and the disgrace of being such greedy, selfish, unfeeling b*s?
This is a fine example for an organization which is all about giving poor kids a nice christmas to be setting. Especially since they are supposed to be representing law enforcement!
Shame, shame, shame on the lot of you people!
In her mug shot taken in central booking which i wish i could put here, she has two slits for eyes, a sneering slit for a mouth with the corners turned down and her face is a blank. Nothing there.
If she has to do community service keep her the hell away from any cash or any kids...
Ex-Blue Santa worker accused of theft
Second time in two years someone has stolen

AUSTIN, TEXAS - For the second time in two years, someone working behind the scenes with Operation Blue Santa has been accused of pocketing money from the Austin Police Department's charity organization. Police said Deborah Cooper, 52, turned herself into authorities Feb. 17 after a warrant was issued for her arrest. The former board vice-president is accused of depositing an $8,500 check made out to Blue Santa in her personal business account at a North Austin Wells Fargo Bank branch in March.
"$8,500 would buy a lot of $5 toys, " said Blue Santa board president George Reynes.
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Reynes said Capital Sports & Entertainment wrote the check to Blue Santa as a donation for using their hanger to host a party for South by Southwest. He said Cooper resigned from the board in 2005 after working for the organization four years.
"She was a very personable person, I mean everybody liked her, " said Reynes.
The announcement came seven months after nearly $1,000 in Wal-Mart gift cards were discovered stolen. Former board treasurer and civilian Austin Police Department employee Nicholas Medina JR. (not his father nicholas median sr. WHO WAS AN HONORABLE MAN!) was accused of spending the cards set aside for Blue Santa on personal purchases in December.
Reynes said tighter money handling procedures have been put in place. A financial audit just completed for 2007 and 2008 by an independent company came out clean. The organization and the police department said the community has no reason to worry about their donations ending up in the wrong hands.
"We should not allow the actions of one person that acted with an abandoned heart, with no regard for anybody or the consequences but themselves to reflect in anyway on this board, " said Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo.
Cooper is charged with theft, a state jail felony which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
