My father Omar Trueba of 80 years old was stationed in ICU, two days after, he was transferred to a regular room in ICU, 606B. My father was very sick, he required oxygen 24/7. Late Monday, 12/01/08 around 7:00 P.M. My father stopped breathing, the staff called Blue alert. They revived my dad. The doctor spoke to me and adviced me my dad was not well, that if he made it through the night, it was a miracle. Monday evening I stayed next to my father's bed side. All night, if maybe two times, the nurse came around. If you ask for any assistance, the staff gives you a look that kills. You are bothering me. My father was so uncomfortable during the night, he was requiring a drink of water all night due to the oxygen made his mouth dry. The oxygen mask was so uncomfortable, it was the kind you place over your face and it would move constantly. I don't know why they didn't have the one placed on his nose like he had during his stay in the emergency room and ICU. If I was not there next to him to fix the mask, I would have found my dad dead. It get's worse. Tuesday morning I asked for another pillow, the nurse stated there are no more pillows. No more pillows in a hospital. Also, the trash was not picked up for almost two days. That was just very sad to hear. I asked for a Social Worker, she or he did not visit. During all this time, not once did the head nurse visit to ask if everything was alright. My dad's neighbor had many complaints as well. I wanted to take my dad home for his lasts days but, no help from the doctor and staff. At around 9:00 A.M. I inform the nurse my dad did not want to keep the oxygen mask on. She was going to return with something to calm him down. The nurse never came. At around 10:00 A.M. My father was grasping for air. There was a nurse attending the neighor and when I screamed my father, my father is not breathing help. She just stood there not moving nor requesting for help. I went outside where the rest of the staff was and screamed to the nurse inside you idiot. The staff outside was only worried about my name calling and not responding to my alert. The staff did not move like it was an emergency. I over heard a staff when another staff was calling out cnx Blue alert/the other staff replied they never answered. My father was gone. To this hospital and staff on that morning, my father was just another body not a human being with emotions and last feelings. This is elder abuse and no one else should go through this experience.
