I am the owner of 2 Ford Motor Company products. They are:
1996 Mercury Cougar
1997 Lincoln Town Car
Both of these vehicles have a 4.6L engine with a PLASTIC intake manifold.
In 2001 while in Illinois, I had to have the intake manifold on my Town Car replaced at a cost of over $600. The vehicle was just out of warranty with approximately 51000 miles.
In 2003 the Cougar required the same.
Both manifold were cracked in the front.
After speaking with various repair shops, I have been made to believe that this is a common problem with Ford motors. It's like driving a timebomb and not knowing when it will explode. Any dealer that I have spoken to says "Tough Luck" as far as having Ford replace this design flawed part.
This will be my last Ford product. It is situations like this that make foreign or other manufacturers products more attractive.
