The check was examined by my personal bank, they said the check appeared to be genuine but they knew it was a scam because one of the tellers received something from the same addresses and bank name as the one I received.
Her letter differed because they wanted her to be a secret shopper and sent her a check for over four thousand, and wanted her to mail over two thousand by Western Union or Moneygram back to them. The letter seemed to be authentic and at the bottom it had a logo of a man throwing money in the air and "lottoagent" "Your Personal Online Lotto Agent". I knew it wasn't real but I'm concerned other people might not know it is a scam and ruin their credit or lose their life savings.
If this check was put through the bank there is a possibility the scammers could get the account numbers and drain the accounts. I called the state attorney twice, but no one has called me back, maybe they aren't interested.
