Credit-card fraud Rip-off highway robbery thieving sons of

I can't believe there are only 14 listings for Damark.
My husband and I ordered a computer from a Damark mail-order catalog that was addressed to "occupant" when we moved into a new apartment. We were already looking for a computer so it was good timing. It was a good deal - computer, printer, monitor, etc. "everything you need to get on the internet" for just $999.99 - we couldn't have been happier with the price, the service, or the merchandise.

Then, we started to get the Damark catalog addressed to us, not the "occupant". Still no problem, we just threw them away. For a good 2 years they wasted their money sending us catalogs that never went farther than the junk-mail bin near our post office box. We always laughed about it because the catalog would have a sticker saying something like 'this is your last chance to save' or 'this is really your last chance' there were about a dozen 'last catalogs'.

So far this is about what you would expect. They finally gave up on the catalogs and started to call us, and call us, and call us! Over the course of the next year they went from calling us every month or two to calling several times a week, and sending us junk-mail. They wanted us to join their savings club. I can't remember the exact amount, but it was about $55. For this small fee we could save 15% on all our Damark purchases. Each of us told them over and over that we were not interested.

Finally, we were sick of the whole thing. I can't repeat our exact words to them during the last few calls, but trust me, we each made it PERFECTLY CLEAR what they could do with their savings. Also, that they should remove my husband's name, address, and telephone number from their records and forget they ever heard of us!

They stopped calling - then they used my husbands credit card number anyway 3 years after his one and only order had been placed with them. They must assume that most people wouldn't miss $50-$60 and it would not be noticed on a statement. My husband checked his balance at the ATM and there was about $60 less than he thought should be in there. When he checked with the bank all they had was a phone number. It was Damark on the other end of the phone.

When he complained to them they just asked him why he didn't want to save 15%, again he made it PERFECTLY CLEAR to them what they could do with their savings!
He didn't get anywhere with them and went to our bank. Once they heard his story they told him that the charge would be removed from his account within 3 days, and it was.

I have 2 pieces of advice: Obviously, Damark should be avoided like the plague, but you should also use a check-card that draws funds from your checking account at your local bank. They are still used and accepted as a regular Visa or MasterCard. The reason this was cleared up so fast is that my husband had a human being he could talk to face-to-face about this charge and not some customer sevice rep who only knows him as a number and is only repeating what her monitor screen tells her to say.
