My mother purchased a car in May of this year. I didnt have a vehicle at the time and she was letting me drive her car to get back and forth from work. Firstly, our down payment was so high that it had do be deferred into 2 monthly payments. Secondly, the car was in the worst condition when it left the lot. The manager knew that it wasnt ready to be sold, but still let my mom take it off the lot knowing it was unsafe. There was a dent in the hood. No big deal, the brakes were to the floor, the back tire was crumbling (literally the rubber was crumbling), the power steering was grinding, the windshield washer fluid wasnt coming out, the heat and ac didnt work. So we took it in for repairs.
When we got the car back, the only thing they did was fix the cosmetic damage to the hood and thats it. We asked them repeatedly to fix the other things that were wrong with the car and they refused. They looked at my mom like she was crazy and said there was nothing wrong with it. I got fed up for her so I pulled a car fax report and it stated that there was a safety recall on the power steering hose that was never fixed on the car. Which is a safety issue to my understanding. Still nothing.
Well after a while of the back and forth nonsense the car died. It sat for a while until she could afford to pay the repairs herself. Which we found out was a faulty battery that was leaking battery acid all over. My mom became fed up and stopped paying them until they fixed the car. They still refused.
They called her everyday, sometimes 3 times in a single minute. Called her at work, called all of her references and threatened her within an inch of her life. She finally was so angry at this particular collector that had been calling that she hollered at her and told her to stop calling my mom at work. Well the collector was angry and somehow did some research using MY information and came to repo the car at MY work. Not my moms. Mind you, nowhere in the loan or anywhere on my moms paperwork, was my information.
I dont know how they found out where I work, because my boss rents his office privately and our phone numbers are unlisted. Not to mention the fact that we were unaware that the car was even in danger of being taken. They never sent my mom any notice, any right to cure forms, no certified letter. Not a thing. I also found out from the repo guy that the collector wanted the car back, simply because she didnt like my mom or her attitude.
We have been doing our research and there has to be something that can be done about this. My mom called them today and they basically told her to punt because its against the law for her to let me drive the car. What a crock!
