I had Direct TV for 16 months and my home was broken into last month and my television along with the converter were stolen, like a good citizen I contacted Direct TV to report it. The guy who I spoke with explained how sorry he was and then offered to send me a new converter, all I would have to pay was the shipping fee of $25.00 so I did not think anything of it so I said okay, BIG MISTAKE!!!
After a month of trouble getting it to work and no service over and over again when it rained I decided to turn the service off, so I called into the office to disconnect the service, an low and behold the lady on the other line tried everything to get me to keep the service on and when I got upset and told her to just cancel it, that is when she hit me with the news, there was going to be a $430.00 early disconnect fee, I was floored!!! I insisted on knowing what for since I had my service on for 16 months and when I was going to disconnect a few months before that it was only a $25.00 disconnect fee?
Well she started to explain to me that since a new converter box was sent to me it started my contract over again!!! I explained to her that the gentleman did not explain anything like that to me and I never asked for a new box he offered to send me a new one. I t didn't matter, so I told her to disconnect anyways and they had better not charge me for the disconnect fee. Well when I checked my account yesterday there it was an unauthorized charge for $438.10!!! I could not believe it, this is fraudulent practices and ridiculous. Direct TV needs to be stopped, after reading that this has been an ongoing practice with this company, I cannot believe they are still in business!!!
I work for the government and cannot understand why anyone has not done anything about this!!!
Is there anything we can do to stop these predetors!!!
