Sept. 12 my nephew received a phone from a company called IMC, Inc. A representative notified him that his name had been put into a sweepstakes (since he opened a new bank account) and that he had won a hand crafted Quartz watch and a free 4 year subscription to ESPN Weekly, Rolling Stones, Heavy Metal etc.
I told him to not provide his credit card information over the phone but to have them mail him the material. He is a young kid without a lot of experience and thought that he had hit the jack pot with free magazine subscriptions.
We received a letter stating that he was going to be charged 79.13 a month for 12 months for a total of 949.56 for 5 subscriptions for 4 years a piece. This is for a kid that doesn't have a job, stripped of his money leaving a balance of 10.00 and his confirmation on the tape reveals that he said uh hu, yeah, ok now what... Not conclusive in my book.
I asked for this to be cancelled and they told me no on a number of occasions. I have since spoken to my nephews bank and they assured me that they do not sell their customer information so that was another lie that they told my nephew.
I am fighting to get this cancelled and his money refunded with out all of the hassle or harrassement.
Any help would be appreciated.
