In March my girlfriend and I had to move the owners were selling their home and the new owners wanted the house to be empty.
The real estate agent named Mike who sold the home also worked in a moving company.
Told my girlfriend and I if we needed a moving company that he would be able to help us.
Mike assured us that everything would be okay. He came to our apartment two weeks before the move and gave us an estimate on what the moving cost would be.
It came out to about $650 boxes. We asked how much were the boxes and he said between $10-$15 a box. He told us we didn't have to give a deposit and there were three ways that they accept payment: 1. Cash, 2.US Certified Check, 3.US Postal Money order
The day of the move, Mike wasn't there but 4 large Moving men plus the driver was there. The driver was the boss, he called the shots, he said the move was going to cost $1200 and they do not accept postal money orders, only cash.
We called Mike immediately, because it was a $550 difference from what we were told by Mike. Mike got on the phone with the driver and told him thats not what he told us. So the driver finally said, he take the $650 US postal money order and the cost for boxes.
We would have to pay additional but it would have to be cash. We did need some boxes for the glass tables and some glass figurines. It took them 5 hours to complete the job, we get to the new apt and the driver says we have to pay him before he unloads our belongings, we were like you didn't finish the job, our stuff hasn't been put back together.
He basically had his men push my girlfriend and I and said we want to get paid now. Basically threatened, I'm not a big guy, I'm only 5'2 and these men were over 6 feet tall, Russian and my girlfriend was timid by them. The driver said again, we want our money now or your stuff is not leaving the truck.
So I asked him how much, he tells me $1700. Where did that come from? We got on the phone again to call Mike because this is extortion. Mike speaks to him again and brings the price down to $1500 which is still a huge difference from $650 then he wouldn't accept the money order. He said No cash only, no exceptions.
Your stuff is going to stay on the truck and we leave and who knows when your stuff will get to you. Maybe a week or two or even a month. Then threatening my girlfriend go get the cash from the bank right now. Meanwhile this is at 7PM at night and its dark outside.
Two of my men will go with you, she said no they won't, I'm going to call the police on you, if they come near me. We asked him how much are the boxes, he charged us $85 a box. What are these boxes made out of? Gold? Never heard of anything like this before.
It was pointless to argue with them. My girlfriend and I went to the bank and the driver followed us. He wouldn't take the money order, but he took $1500 cash from us. We asked for a receipt, he told us when the job is complete we get our receipt. So the job was done, wheres our receipt, he said hed be back its in the truck.
He went into his truck and took off with out giving us our receipt. We have been calling the company for over 3 months and we keep getting promised that we get it and we never do.
Obviously they pocketed the cash. I want to take them to court, have them sued, be deported back to Russia. They do not deserve to be in this country. For my girlfriend and I sake, I hope justice is served to these horrible ruthless criminal, thieves.
