On April 6, my domestic partner and I drove to Charleston, South Carolina to attend a 90 minute presentation at The Lodge Valley Inn for Bluegreen Vacation Club.
The 90 minute presentation ended up being a all-day affair but well worth our time (or so we thought). Our hosts, Tiffany and Matt, thoroughly had us convinced we had just made the deal of a lifetime and we went out to dinner that night to celebrate. Our gracious hosts had showered us with gifts and bonuses to entice us to sign on the dotted line, but of course it had to be that day or all these extras would disappear (little did they know that they had done such a wonderful sales job that we would have signed without all of the extras).
We only had one major concern (which we had experienced with a RV Campground membership) and that was that if something happened to one of us or if health reasons caused us to be unable to use our membership how hard would it be for us to rid ourselves of the burden of ownership? NO PROBLEM!!! SAID OUR ILLUSTRIOUS HOSTS. WE WILL SELL IT FOR YOU AND WE CAN EVEN HELP YOU SELL YOUR CAMPGROUND MEMBERSHIP!!!
In March I started calling Tiffany and Matt in Charleston to tell them we needed to get rid of our Bluegreen membership and if you guessed that we couldn't get any help, YOU GOT IT RIGHT ON THE NOSE!!! Not only could we not get any help we couldn't EVEN get a response to any of our calls or E-mails. Not from Charleston OR from the home office in Boca Raton, Florida.
After repeated phone calls and E-mails I cancelled our automatic draft and after missing three payments I FINALLY got a response from them. Not exactly the one I wanted but we did get a letter threatening to sue us and to ruin our credit (which by the way, they had already done without any warning).
Now that we finally have their attention and they want to know what we want to do and I explained everything to Mark, the gentleman I was speaking to, he tells me they can't help sell our membership, We're NOT brokers!
Are you telling me we're screwed?
Yep. Pay up or well see you in court.
Amen
