On Friday, Aug 8, I purchased a Canon Powershot SD950is, on the internet from 86 Photo and Video ($243.95 delivered). That evening I received an email saying, that on Monday, I had to call 800-815-2040x209 (Brad) to confirm my order. Strange for an internet order but I followed up.
First thing Monday morning, I called Brad. He was polite but tried to sell me a $100 warranty package for the camera. I declined. Brad said no problem and the camera would be shipped within two weeks. Within seconds of hanging up, I received an email stating that due to the delay in my order, the camera was on backorder and could not be delivered for 4 to 6 weeks.
Thinking it to be a mistake, I immediately called Brad, on his extension. He answered and asked for my order number. When I gave it to him, the phone clicked, Brad was gone, and I was placed on hold with a 15 minute wait.
After about 10 minutes a lady answered and once again took the order number. She told me they did not have the camera in stock and it was on backorder and wanted to know if I wanted to cancel. It sounded as if she expected a cancellation and had no desire to sell this camera at this price without their ridiculously expensive add ons. I said yes. She cancelled the order and said my card would not be charged.
This was a classic example of false advertising and lack of business ethics.
