Almost scammed

I received a letter new canaan credits notifying me that I won $4,997.28 from the National Lotto Cooperation Sweepsatkes Lottery and to deposit the enclosed check for $2,998.00 to be paid by western union. After depositing check I was tild to call them about the details regarding sending the money for tax clearance. I can see how people fall into such temptations given how needy many of us are at this time.
