In July I moved into a new address and contacted our utility company Consumers Energy to enroll me and switch service to my name. Everything was fine until March, I received a bill with an adjustment for $844.71. I was shocked, I called Consumers Energy and asked what this was they told me my meter was not showing usage of gas until 2/20/08 to 3/20/08 billing cycle which was read by an employee and I was not billed for gas since July so they gave me an adjustment to make up for the difference. This is not my fault I paid my bills every month as they asked it said no usage how can they come up with this adjustment? I went to ask for help from our local Department of Social Services (DHS) so I wouldnt get cut my services cut off, I am disabled and barely making it supporting my family on my disability payment. I needed assistance paying the bill for $1221.02. Consumers Energy told DHS I FRAUDED their company and that is why the bill was so large! WOW? Where did this crap come from? FRAUD?
No one at Consumers Energy could tell me where this fraud came from or HOW? After I raised hell demanding a supervisor and an explanation as to FRAUD. Consumers Energy recanted that statement after I was embarrassed, slandered, & defamed with DHS and they labeled my file as never being able to get assistance for utilities because I was involved with fraud and the company!!! I became very sick physically, and mentally after calling a worker daily trying to explain I was sick with a very bad cold and being in the dark, and cold in March would kill me and my children. After three months, and lots of work from my self and a social worker that just so unsharpened to believe me after I showed her my zero gas usage bills and only electric being used and payments did they decide they were wrong oops sorry! How can they do that accuse me of something with no proof? Now I am labeled with the State of Michigan as a criminal? Is that fair? I dont think I was treated fair. Consumers Energy does, says, and charges what they want, they monopolize the industry in Michigan. Who is the FRAUD? Consumer is to me!
