Everyone has heard the stories about Craftmatic Beds. They talk about how we violate the telemarketing laws and scam the elderly out of money, but what you don't hear about is how the company treats the employees. Yes, Craftmatic goes by Contour now but please don't let that fool you.
In the last 6 months we have had our health insurance canceled twice yet they continue to deduct the money from our paychecks. This time with the health insurance is what has drawn me to take steps for others to see what goes inside our work place. A place that we stayed through the best and worst times. Even when the company was going out of business and being taken over we stayed. We have endured endless changes, pay cuts, and schedule changes.instead of appreciating how loyal we have been we have been treated like scum. Either like it or quit. That is a lot easier said then done when you have bills to pay and a family to feed. So I would like to take the time to fill you in on what goes on inside closed doors.
They have deducted money from our paychecks to be placed into our 401k account while not making the payments on time. The 401k is now defunct after years of this going on. We have received cancellation letters in the mail because our Aflac hasn't been paid. We have had our health, eye, and dental insurance denied for lack of payment. Child support payments were not made causing employees to receive orders to appear in court. Once again all things that are deducted from our pay, but not used to pay the premiums.
For reasons I won't or can't give the owner of the company had to relinquish ownership of the company yet he was able to work out a deal to stay on at the company. With new ownership we knew would come changes, but this has taken it's toll on us. Every week they insert new changes. We have no handbook to follow so we have nothing in writing about anything. We have vacation days that they won't let us use because they are half days and the new company doesn't allow us to use half days. They insert new policies on a regular basis yet when we ask about them we're told we ask to many questions! We have to ask for toiletries or bring them yourself. You has to bring their own toilet paper to work? We have other employees that are nice enough to bring in cups so we can get something to drink while we're working. The building is filthy we have bugs on the toilets. We can't fill our prescriptions cause our health insurance is canceled. We had to walk off the job for an hour yesterday before we could get anyone to talk to us about another change they through at us. We have basically been told that if you don't like it quit. They think we should be lucky to have jobs since we are so stupid and under educated.
Is this acceptable? Is there nothing we can do? No, according to our place of busniess. Either accept or quit. I wish it were that simple.
