In April My sewer backed up into our laundry room and basement. I called Mr. Rooter and Babek came out to the house. He is very kind and personable. I got home from work and went down to the basement.
I was at the end of a three year divorce process and feeling totally overwhelmed about the problem. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I was bone crushingly tired. Babek had a camera and told me that the sewer pipe needed to be replaced.
My ex had just had a lot of work done at his new place which included a sewer pipe and I moaned Oh no! Isnt that about $10,000? (He had actually had a driveway poured and a few other things in his price of $5000 price but in my exhaustion I thought was in trouble because my house is set back from the street).
Babek told me that it wouldn't be that much, it t more likely it would be less. I was totally overwhelmed and exhausted and standing in an inch of sewage water.
Babek talked to his supervisor and said because of all the rock on the South HIll of Spokane, where I live, the job would likely take 3 days and thus would cost $8000. I was so overwhelmed, my ex-husband had handled all the finances for nearly 30 years and I had not a clue about anything. I erroneously thought I was saving money Because of my wrong impression that it would cost $10,000.
They said that they could start tomorrow and because I often work 12 hours a day (for 12 dollars and hour) I thought I better just have them do it, I felt I had no choice. I realize now that I did but not then.
The job was said to take 3 days and thus cost $8000. The job took less than one day. I came home on a break to see how it was going around 3 or 4 and they were finishing up. No adjustment was made for the significantly lower labor costs.

Dirt was missing and continues to be missing and there are holes in the yard. There is dirt still missing from next to the house where the sewer line comes out.
We have had continual problems with flooding because we were unable to fill in the egress window well after it was installed. I had asked Mr. Rooter to please leave some of the dirt piled up instead of filling it in so that we could have the window put in and save on the expense of a second dig as the pipe came out in the exact spot where the window was required. The hole was left but all of the dirt was not and it has not been sufficient to refill the hole after the window was put in. We still have problems with flooding. The hole remains.
Near the street I have a Sequia, I was happy that the workers were able to save the tree by cutting some branches and working around it. Unfortunately, the branches that were taken off a tree to make room for the dig were stuffed into the ground around the tree and covered with dirt leaving a hole for us unknowingly to fall in up. I had someone helping me with yard work who fell in up to his thigh! Fortunately he was not badly hurt but he was hurt.
The yard is awful; lumpy bumpy, uneven, full of rocks, and just a mess. Large cracks have appeared, been filled in and reappeared. I do not believe that the soil was compacted following the excavation.
I had the misfortune of having to have my water main replaced later in the year. This time I had someone reputable do it for a fraction of what Mr. Rooter charged me. I was told that a reasonable price for the sewer replacement would have been $2000.
When the water line was replaced you could not tell that they had even been there working they took such good care of the sod replacement.
The side of the yard where Mr, Rooter worked was like a giant gash or scar it looked hideous for months and months and months. It still looks sickly and bumpy. We have picked up the rocks that remained (for the most part) ourselves.
At the same time that this was going on Babek said he could give me a house inspection and tell me what all work might be done while we were at it.
Our water heater was replaced by Babek.

We occasionally have rust in our upstairs bathroom and kitchen so I agreed to have the galvanized pipes through out the house replaced for $3000.instead only the easy to access pipes were replaced in the basement and left hanging out in places, including a bedroom ceiling and laying on top of the hot vent pipe of my furnace in the furnace room which was discovered when having the furnace serviced. My regular plumber, (who does not do sewer lines roto rooting etc,) discovered the pipes on the furnace and readjusted it for me. He also thought that the pipes and fittings were of inferior quality.

I felt I was overcharged for everything and that the jobs were not finished properly. I am sick of holes in my yard.
THe whole fiasco cost me my entire years salary. I understand that life has the troubles but I feel that this was a clear case of having my ignorance taken advantage of.
I have called the office numerous times, asked for managers etc. The receptionist Nika is delightful and kind. Nevertheless my calls are not returned by the people she leaves messages with. Ie. Managers.
I am very unhappy with my experience with Mr. Rooter as a company. I feel taken advantage of at a time when I was obviously very vulnerable. I did learn a valuable lesson. But I do not feel that lesson was worth $16,000.
