Well I was actually an employee with Pitts sales for quite a while. Almost 5 years with a few breaks and I saw just about all there was to see, and I will not lie, participated in quite a bit of it myself.
When I got to that company it did not take me long to realize that I had a particular talent for bending people to my will and getting them to give me there money so I could not imagine having another job. Especially after just getting out of high school and now I was getting the oppertunity to travel the country and make some money while I was doing it.
At first it was too good to be true. There was lots of sex, drugs, and alcohole. It was like a non-stop party. And my only job was to go around all day and talk to people. Too-easy.
I was one of the lucky ones and the people who trained me, trained me to do the job the right way. Well as right as it can be done I guess. I later did experiment with many of the more "scandilous" ways to sell magazines but they never quit worked for me the way I was trained to do the job did.
But from my experience which was extensive these are some of the things that should be looked out for.
1 the people that come to your door are in no way shape or form KIDS in the literal term. They are all 18 or older some were in there late 30s.
2 Non of them are from schools
3 If you pay in cash chances are (and this is from my later experiences when the type of people working for us really changed, and from reports from a few people I have sporatically kept in touch with over the years) You will not recieve a thing and more then likely that reciept was torn up and the cash was pocketed.
4 The person selling the magazines will never get there "points" if you order and cancel the order.
5 It is a freakin job
6 The one report I read on here about them claiming to be from a farm league baseball team was rather amusing to me but entirely not true nor any other athletic or personal developing (besides financially, and not really even that) program.
7 They all do drugs, drink a lot and try to have sex with anything that moves
