Davis Direct Marketing, Next Level Promotions Scam Artists... Misleading and Foney... I glad that after 2 days, I quit!

I read a complaint written by Heather from Milwaukee, who like myself, was interviewed at Davis Direct Marketing Inc. Like Heather, I was greatly dissapointed and taken aback at the appearance of the office, as well as the fact that I was led to believe that a position for "Customer Service" was open (which is what I applied for).

When I went for the interview, all of a sudden I found out that they would interview me for the "sales department".

In fact, there was NO "Customer Service" position open. The office only had one secretary, who was 10 minutes late to her job, on the day I waited to be interviewed, sitting in a child's size chair in the 9' x 3' waiting room.

In addition, the owner and the woman that interviewed me during the 2nd interview, told me that their company sees hundreds of people a week and hardly any get the chance to go to a 2nd interview...

Well at the end of my interview, all those who were interviewed were told to wait in that tight-space waiting area... A few minutes later it was announced that "although it was a difficult decision to make all 9 of us were picked for a 2nd round interview, " which they said was "very rare"

I thought that sounded crazy, since there were already at least 15 employees that I saw in the office, one that could only sufficiently hold about 5 at the most.

But Miss Naive (ME) was in need of a half-decent second job, and I just didn't want to give up a possible opportunity, not yet.

Unfortunately, I accepted the job offer, after the rediculous 10 hour (with a 10 min break) "2nd Round Interview." It boggled my brain that they hired me, after seeing my resume and seeing that I had plenty of "Customer Service" and "Secretarial/office" experience and absolutely NO sales experience, whatsoever!

So, I started working for Davis Direct Marketing back in September. This small, cheaply done, hole-in-the-wall, office space was jammed pack daily with 20 bodies, not to mention that I found out that the in the office space, the second office, of only 2 personal offices (size of a cubical), was for another company that they shared the office space with!!!

Well, long story short, after loads of bogus claims and stories that the owner would tell us each morning, trying to motivate us and "get us pumped"...
Stories about the success and hefty pay checks (supposedly $200-$300 thousand/year) of those higher up in the company...

And after two exausting days of soliciting and standing outside of Walmart and Pick N' Save, trying to con people into believing that we were "just helping kids" by selling products...

And sexual harassment by rude men that were going into the stores (when I pointed this out to the girl who was "training" me, she said, "oh I just giggle and either ignore them or tell them that their silly, so that they will buy something")...

At the end of these 2 days, I had had enough and I hated the gut feeling that I had and my natural instincts told me that I had better quit, especially because everything was fishy, vague and undefined.

NO one even ever clocked in or out... There wasn't a way to do so... So how would they know how much to pay us?

When questioned, No one gave straight answers and one girl told me that she had moved from California with the owner to start the branch in Menomonee Falls... She said that she hadn't been home in a year... And she hadn't been promoted yet...

In "training" we learned that after 6 months, most of the workers will get a promotion and soon open up their own office, that they can pick the location of, all expenses paid for the first few months... (no college degree needed)

It all sounded too easy... So, after the second day I called up and told them I "wasn't comming in, " that I "wasn't feeling well"... I really just wanted to discuss the issue with my husband.

I talked it over with my husband and my family and everyone agreed that I definately shouldn't go back! So, the next day, I called and quit.

After about 2 weeks, I noticed that I still had not recieved a check from them, for my two days of work... I called the office and asked the secretary to look to see if I had a check... I gave her my name... She said that there "wasn't a check written out to that name"!

So I told her that I had worked for two days and quit... She said she would check again and if there was one, she would mail it to me...

Well I never recieved a check, and after another 10 days I called again, only this time the secretary said the checks had all go out in the mail and there was no way to check if I had a check coming to me or not!!!

I tried calling every few weeks, but always the same response.

I finally thought, "Screw this... I'm not going to get myself sick over $100...

January 31, I recieved a Tax Return document via mail from Davis Direct Marketing... I was livid! The most rediculous thing is that the document read that I grossed $58!!! After two 8 hour days... I only got $58!!!

Now, I am waiting to hear back from the owner, whom I spoke to recently, to tell her that I never recieved a check and that I need to do my taxes, so she needs to send me my check... She said that I would have to fill out an affidavit that she would be faxing to me in the next few days, because she will have to "look through boxes" to find my information...

I'm calling her tomorrow to see if I need to take this issue to the Better Business Bureau and perhaps a lawyer!!!
