Upon looking at my recent AMEX bill I noticed a $14.95 charge for which I had no understanding where or what it was. Through research I found that the charge was for a membership to Shopping Essentials, for which I apparently was already 2 months involved. When I contacted the company they advised me that I "signed up" for the membership when I purchased some items through Vista Print.
I do remember the items I purchased through Vista Print but I have no recollection of ever submitting to a membership buyers club. If this was done, it was done in such a covert way that it was not immediately recognizable by me.in reading from others through usacomplaints.com, this seems to be a common method of how this company lures unsuspecting people into a membership program.
I contacted the company and my challenge was recieved by a "honey sweet" receptionist who had no problem with cancelling my membership. My problem is that this company, Shopping Essentials, most probably covertly signs up people through other internet purchases and then after recieving a few months memberships, allows the cancellation, is two or more months to the good of membership fees and just moves on. Think about the number of people that this could be occuring to. I challenged the person as to why I never recieved any confirmation about having enrolled as a member inclusive of a membership number or login code and they could not answer my question.
Shopping Essentials, and those affiliate companies who allow Shopping Essentials to tail gate on their websites are practicing fraudulent and covert practices and consumbers need to be extremely mindful when doing anything on the internet these days.
Also, it is wise to routinely check your credit card charges and bank statements to make sure these leeches don't attach themselves.
I am challenging the purchase through my AMEX which hopefully will be able to credit my account for the 2 months of charges that I did not authorize.
