Hughes Network Systems - Hughesnet, Pradman Kaul Pres. And CEO
The folks in India are friendly enough but the company apparently won't let them really fix the speed problems. Germantown, Potomac

I spent 14 Months in Southern Afghanistan working for our country. The most important thing to me was to be able to keep in touch with my family while I was gone. We can not get a DSL where we live and it appeared to us that the best service available was hughesnet, formerly directwav.

We pay for a plan that states speeds up to 1500 kbps. Here is were the joke come in. More than seventy five percent of the time while I was online with my family we had a 7 to 30 minuet lag in communications. At first I though it was our satelite not giving us enough bandwidth. This was found not to be the case. The problem was with Hughesnet service and bandwidth.

I have been home now for just over 1 year and guess what. After countless calls to our friends in India I still have less than 200 kbps download speeds. I have sent a letter to Mr. Kaul directly in an effort to get some help from the big dog but 15 days have past and I did not even get a confirmatiion of receipt.

Apparently Mr. Kaul and his board of directors do not think this is an issue as I only pay $75.00/ month. Perhaps, if it is not already in the works a class action suit is in order to show how small they really are. I would imagine that $75.00/ month multiplied by over 100,000 users would get the attention of the stock holders.

My next calls will be to the Attorney General of the State of Ohio, the BBB, the PUCO and to the Federal Trade Comm. Any other suggestions?

PS: Has anybody ever heard of Hughesnet uncensored? I paid $25.00 donation to these guys for an upload that actually did increase my speeds drastically. Once I contacted Hughesnet Tech support in India, and they had me try there "things" again, my speed went away again.
