I also got scammed in my home 2 kids who claimed to be attending college in Maryland. This happened on June 12. I live in a gated community, so when my doorbell rang and I saw these two young adults, I immediately thought they lived in my community. (I don't know all my neighbors!) She was a white girl, thin, with brown shoulder length hair and he was "Justin" a soft spoken, well dressed black young adult.
They claim they were from our town and were both good friends and were away in college, but were in town visiting family. They were selling magazine subscriptions and or books to earn points towards a trip to Spain. The girl showed me the pamphlet which I remember was very worn. She said they only needed 1,000 points each to win and were very excited. I wanted to help them achieve their goal, so I agreed to purchase 4 books. I didn't realize the books were so expensive, $40 dollars each! Plus shipping... But she claimed that the books were hard cover and of really good quality. So I went ahead with the order.
They asked me to pay for it by check and it had to be one check PER ORDER... So I ended up writing out 4 checks! Of course the checks cleared after a few days, but it took 2 months to receive 2 of the 4 books I ordered. Great! I received the books, but I'm still missing 2 books worth $100. So I decided to give the number on the receipt a call, but all I get is a recording and a voicemail that is always FULL!
After a week plus of calling I finally decided to search the company on Google... And I found this site and all of these other people talking about the same thing I am now experiencing! I GOT SCAMMED!!!
I will NEVER buy anything or donate to anyone who comes to my door... This is certainly a learning experience.
