This is a scam. I was contacted last year and offered a free gift and a free trial subscribtion of magazines. I agreed to the trial and recieved a few magazines and a bill. The bill was for 2 years at over $50 a month. I decided to cancel and when I called I was told I was unable to cancel. I cancelled the card that was being charged and I got endless phone calls.
Finally I got a call saying that if I paid one more payment that it would be settled and my account would be closed completely, so I paid and I thought it was over. It has been a few months now and I started to recieve statments in the mail again, and they were taking the payments straight out of my checking account.
I told them that I had cancelled this months ago, but they said there was no record of my cancellation only a record of my verbal authorization for them to bill my account. They played me a recorded message of my voice and said this was all the authorization they needed to charge my account. I explained that since that message i had cancelled, but of course they had no record of that conversation.
They continued to tell me that the subscribtion was uncancellable and they could only make me a offer to buy out my subscribtion for $800. That is crazy after arguing with them some more they came down to $500. That was, as they said "the best offer we can give to you, we are already losing money".
This is a scam, I am cancelling my card and contacting a lawyer. Don't take NO for an answer!
