It sounds easy. But then you realize the only person making money, is the person who hired you

So it started with an interview. At the interview, the receptionist/hr person, Christina, sounded really nice and acted as though only a few applicants actually have a first interview let alone a second. From this point, i should have known already because I had applied to the same company before and got an interview, but i ditched it. Then i applied not long after (not realizing it was the same company) and got another interview.

At the interview, I spoke to the "head guy". He asked me to describe myself. We had more of a short conversation than an interview. I told him my basic life, and he told what the company was about. Then i get home and not long after, Christina calls me to say that i landed a second interview, and to wear comfy shoes cause we were going to be walking all day.

The second interview, was pretty much a job shadow from 9am til almost 6pm. It had to be one of the hottest days of the year, and we're wearing business wear and walking door to door to various businesses selling office supplies. All the while, the guy i was shadowing was boasting about the company, and how he enjoyed his job, while getting to know me. I was hesitant, but still tried to keep my game face on while trying to keep my mind off the heat.

So then he told me that if he thought that i was a good candidate for the company, he would tell his superiors and give me a third interview with one of them at the end of the day. I got that third interview and was offered the job on the spot.

The first day I was there, they showed me around their "office". It consisted of a bare reception area with a lonely desk and some chairs, and a shelf that had one frame on it. Two separate offices off to the side that also only had a desk in it. And a room that had nothing but a dry erase board and a room full of their sales material. Their excuse was that they were just moving into this new office.

The first fifteen minutes consisted of getting to know all the reps and the new people interviewing the "Leaders" in order to learn how to do well in this field. They kept going on and on about the law of averages, and how on an average day, you should make 3 accounts.

I followed the same trainer for three days. He was supposedly one of the "top sellers" in the company. Who lands 3 or more accounts a day. He happened to also be the person i had my second interview with. He made ZERO accounts the first day, ONE account the second, and ONE account the third. Oh, and the day of my second interview? He also made ZERO! I don't even know how i got this far...

Anyway, on the ad that i answered on craigslist, it said the SALARY was around 45k a year. Realistically? It's a 20% commision NO base pay job. Hours are from 7:45AM til almost 6PM every day no matter what the weather! It's door to door sales to businesses who don't even want you there. You spend days walking miles and miles, or riding trains and buses, reciting pitches you don't believe and you aren't being paid unless you actually con someone into buying something.

Oh, and they'll also tell you the four steps of moving up in the company. Just don't even bother with this. Any company that doesn't have base pay is a scam. Hiring all these people to do their dirty work is not costing them a dime, and they get most of the money if you do luck out on some unlucky stranger. I only lasted three days cause i knew that what they promised was not at all what you got.
