Hughes Network Systems, Directway - Hughes Net - Not what they advertise

If you are reading this, more than likely you're here to complain or for information.

Neither of which is positive.

If you're hear to complain, add this one to the pile. This service sucks.

Plain and simple. It's good for browsing and (expensive) browsing only.

If you get emails with large attachments (i.E., in the megabytes), your day on the internet will be short.

If you to game online, forget it.
If you visit sites like Youtube, forget it.
If you're a business forget it! (I'm a business of one (computer repair) and I'm locked all the time, so I have internet every other day.)

If you download programs, music, videos, porn... Forget it!!!

When it comes down to it, if you do anything more than "just browse" the internet, forget it. It's not the solution you are looking for. It's an expensive replacement for dial-up. A major expense at that too.

You pay for all the equipment and a technician to install it, Then you start your $60 a month (at a minimum) payments to da-man.

Web pages will load quickly (albeit not advertised fast) if you haven't exceeded the FAP (Fair Access Policy) which seems to change in their favor as they grow in subscriber base, because we users are desperate for anything better than dialup but once you've exceeded your allotment for the day, then you are pretty much locked out of the internet for the next 24 hours.

Complain all you want, the people on the other end barely speak English (India) and are outsourced. They have no connection to the people that are providing you the service other than a paycheck and to listen to you whine.

Don't blame the technician who installed your system. They're a hard worker like you trying to make a buck.

Directway/Hughes was smart separating all aspects of their service because most people can't seem to find who to complain to and it separates the rich corporate bastards from dealing with any of it.

They don't care if you cancel you subscription. Most people who complain, they complain because they are locked out. That's because they've exceeded thier allotment for the past 24 hours.

90% of us who get FAPPED, are fapped because we earned it. We'd like to blame anyone else and do our best to weasel out of our dilemma. We don't like it and we'll bitch and moan to anyone who will listen.

So what does Hughes do, they outsource our bitch center to India! Like anyone 12,000 miles away cares!

There's plenty of us who are needed. The whole purpose of FAP is to get the "heavy" users to go away, but with the internet the bandwidth intensive "program" it is today, you would think they would adjust in a loyal manner. Heavy users was coined when programs were in the upper Kilobytes or low megs and these were people who downloaded more than 10-50 megs. Now a simple webpage with embedded video, if you have your machine upgraded with all available plugins, can be up near 10 megs.

Damn, we're screwed. Oh yeah, you can upgrade your service to an option that allows a little more download capabilty, but honestly, if you're fapped where you are, don't you think you'll be fapped at the next level?!

Here's your sign and thank you for the extra $'s. Dumb ass!

Recently, (April) they've screwed their loyal customers by imposing even further restrictions on web habits. It use to be that once you hit FAP you were "retarted" (oh boy don't get me started here), for at least 8 hours.

Ok, at 2am, not such a bad idea; time to go to bed; but now, you are toast for a full 24 hours.

Once FAP engages, Webpages are worst than dial-up!

OMG! Worst than dial up!? Yes it really is possible with this service.

If you want fast download for web pages only for at least $60 a month, go for it.

If you want to download anything other than a generic webpages, wait til something else comes to your area.

This product is over-priced, over-hyped and overly hosed.

Question: If a company was confident in their product, why would they charge a $300 termination fee if you cancel in the first 12 months?

It's because the product is flawed. Always read the fine print.

Peace
