To make a long story shorter, when my mother died, the SSA got a copy of her death certificate so that my father could collect his death benefit check. Some idiot at the SSA put the wrong date of death in the computer. The SSA then went into my fathers checking account and took more than $6,000 believing they paid a dead woman and extra year in benefits.
Even after more than a year later, numerous phone calls to attorneys who say they can't help, and even a letter from a local senator the SSA have not yet returned my fathers money even though they admit they made a mistake.
Why won't anyone help? I have done everything within my power to have this matter resolved. My father lives on his SSA check and a small pension.
