I was looking at one of my credit card statements and I noticed an unusual charge for $9.95 from "Shopping Essentials." This charge made me suspicious because I had paid off this credit card and was no longer using it. When I looked at some of my older statements, I found that I had been receiveing this same charge for the past 12 months!
I called my credit card company to get the phone number to Shopping Essentials. I called Shopping Essentials and they said that I had signed up for the service when I ordered a catalogue from a completely unrelated company. Basically, it sounds like their offer must have been burried in the fine print of this website. They claim that a verification email was sent, but that it may have been flagged by my spam filter and deleted.
I requested a full refund and was told that I could only have 1 month refunded. When I threatened to call the Better Business Bureau and the FTC, I was told that I could have 2 months refunded.
This company seems to be a scam... Pure and simple. People are being signed up for this service without their knowledge. When they purchase a completely unrelated product, Shopping Essentials seems to piggy back onto this sale in a sneaky and unethical manner.
I contacted my credit card's fraud department and requested a full refund for all charges.
