Working in the yard this past Saturday, my partner and I were approached by a young man named Jason selling books with shipping guaranteed by Barnes and Noble which I am sure Barnes and Noble does not know anything about. He was selling these books so that he would be able to go with his baseball team to Hawaii for a tournament. The books started at 40.00 dollars and up. He said that if I wanted to I could purchase a set of 10 books and donate them to a charity of my choice. I said well, no I would not buy a book - he suggested that I could make a donation to the trip. So I wrote him a check for $25.00. He said that his father was going to have him come back to do some chores around my house for donating to this fundraising program.
I had second thoughts about this kids story and went on line to check it out. There is no baseball team from GA going to HI. The tournament was last week. I put a stop payment on my check.
The sad thing is I wanted to "pay it forward" - as a kid I went door to door selling raffle tickets, girl scout cookies, you name it and I wanted to do my part well now do not trust a sole
