On 10/12, I was home when I heard a loud crash' then a friend Yell jess she just hit your car. I ran outside to find (2) people I knew from the neighbor hood. They were walking to work and saw a girl (described as a shoulder length blonde haired girl, with a Barbie's a slut t-shirt on) first reverse into my retaining wall, just a tap I guess because I didn't hear that. Then continue forward and strike the rear left side of my car as she is making a right turn, giggle then leave. I know this girl as Patients from old neighbors who no longer live next to me. Didn't see her around much at all, but, she had just stopped by looking for them. I informed her they moved. All was good, she left and then the above occurred.
I was very unhappy as you can imagine (this coming from a person who is teased because I wash my car EVERY DAY). I gave her a little while to calm down and come back. She never returned. A couple hours later, one of the (2) witnesses that was walking by called me from the bar down the street. Said he was sitting behind her, she didn't t recognize him, and that he was listening to her tell some ridiculous story about someone coming at her in a car and she pulled some crazy escape/save the day story so he thought he'd let me know she is there, etc. I asked him to go out and try to find the car so I can file a complaint. It was dark, and he really didn't want to be involved so he went quickly gave me a plate # to a car that MIGHT be it, but wasn't positive.
I then went down to find her at the bar to find her walking down the street with a mutual friend. She immediately is sooo sorry, admits to doing it, admits she knew it was my car, and feels horrible. She says she is to run to her car to get her info, and she splits again.
The following morning first thing, I call the police to file a report. (2) Officers come out to take the report. Car hasn't been moved, still glass on ground from broken tail light etc. About a week or so later, I get a message from Detective Huntington. She states I have tried to call you and your voice mail was full, I don't know what you're trying to pull here Ms Nehez. But I looked for damage on the vehicle you gave the plate to and there is NO WAY she hit your car. I AM CLOSING THIS CASE! Wow! I get this message and return her call same day, and leave a message. Call a day or so later, leave another message, she returns my call. Still VERY rude and short with me. Like I am trying to pull a scam or something. While I have (2) witnesses who saw the incident and about 4 more who saw she and I converse and she admitted etc. Anyhow - I explained the lic. Plate # was given to me by someone else and am not sure if was correct as CLEARLY stated in the police report. She was rude, said case was closed then we hung up. Also, since I didn't know anything more about her except her name is Patients, I called around and got her mother's address etc for the detective.
The following day Det. Huntington calls me again. Says' why don't you drive your car to my station, I will look at the damage and we will discuss opening this case again. With thanks and praise, I went to her station.
As I pull into the parking lot, I notice 4-5 officers just hanging around the lot. I get out and begin to walk toward the front door. I hear my name and ignore it; they can't be talking to me? I hear my first and last name, stop turn around and the officers are standing there, come with me please' one states, I was ShockedI said, no I am here to see det. He cuts me off mid sentence and states'we know why you're here, where is your driver's license? I begin to explain I am in the process of DMV court cuz Connecticut (my home state) will not release it to California, and the California judge has overruled CT;s action, I am waiting to hear back from Ct DMV. Obviously Det. Huntington has run my record, as she still asked me to drive my car here for the hit and run inspection I had them my state ID card for proof of who I am and they look through their pages, see no other incidents except the actual incident of when I found out my lice in CT was a problem and got a ticket for driving without a license. We are taking your car' he states! WHAT!?!? I burst into tears, why? Driving without a license is against the law and began to rack up a few other infractions as well. At this time I hear Huntington's Voice walking with some other people out of the station I yell out to her explaining who I am, she yells back oh yeah, oop, sorry I can't help you, case is still closed and continues on her way. The office then states don't worry we are only impounding your car for about 2 hours, then you can pick it up give me a ticket, calls a tow truck and all of the officers leave me there, in the lot to wait to be towed and find a ride home. Protect and SERVE??? Neither my rights, nor my property were protected OR serve4d here, and I believe this is entrapment amongst other things.!! I have been afraid to write to internal affairs, etc, because everyone in this town knows not to bother with the police cuz they obviously have the time to make my life miserable. As 4-5 of them proved on this day, by standing around a parking lot waiting for me to show up. As I now have moving violations and had to barrow over $400 to get my car back. Not to mention my 1999 Anniversary Edition Mazda Miata Convertible has rear fender damge - Rusted - and a $400 broken tail light!
