Grand theft larceny by ex-girlfriend. Should people keep large secured legal sums of cash in their home? No, but millions of people do, or should have it converted to American Express traverlers checks in case they are lost or stolen. My story is this.
I did the former and it was foolish and do not need lectures at this point but suggestions on how to recover if any or send this person to prison.
A person that I have known off & on for 8 years wanted to get back together. I have forgiven many things from her though I was reluctant but because she found religeon & seemed to change I opened my heart and home to her.
She lived here for 3 months.in the 18 yrs that I have lived here there has never been a break in. June 16-02 is when the crime was committed in Burbank, Ca., sometime through out the day.
She was the only one that had a house key. I had saved $72,000 that was in a locked steel cash box with the only key hidden in my small closet & never told her.
We had an agruement two days prior and did not speak. June 15-02 while she was gone I took out $100 and put it back. June 16-02 I was working all day & when I came home she wanted to talk which turned into yelling.
The police came and she was removed took her things gave-up the house key & left. Later I went to the box to pay a bill & it was gone. I called the police back & they made a report of Grand Theft as the prime & only suspect. She did it without a question!
The first few days she lived like a gypsy & her car she lied was 1yr behind in payments. She pays a storage facility for things & strongly suspected it was there but failed to have the police get a search warrant. The detective & D.A. Believe she did it & the case has to make 12 jurors believe.
Per the detective I recorded her phone conversations for a slip-up but always denied. I have contacted her friends & family to have her come to her senses & return whatever is left but she has told them that I have just made this up.
She thinks the police are not involved & I just laid down on this. She had less than a $1000 saved & never picked-up a check from a recent employer.
She dropped off that car paid cash to buy another & temporarily moved to Colorado with her mother to hire a lawyer for her 16yr son who has to face drug charges. My only proof is 7yrs of tax returns & check stubs at the same job & my bank account at the same bank for the last 10yrs of only a few hundred dollars.
I pay taxes & my dreams of a home are now stalled. I have limited funds for a P.I. The detective has told me she has to be flushed out & her wanting to take a lie detector test is b.S. & he will let her friends & family know that this was committed & serious.
Bur their priority is low. If they listened to me she would of been caught here in Burbank with the goods. Can I push for search warrants, wire taps and/or put a lien on her mother's new house?
The police talk to me like Jack Webb & a trial defense lawyer to see how I would do in court & that she indeed will go to prison but are slow in reacting. Solutions, if any???
