As a former employee of Rent A Center, I can tell you they treat their employees as poorly as they do their customers. I still have people come up to me and tell me how badly they are treated by the current employees of my former store. I dedicated myself to Rent A Center for two-three years, working my way up.
My manager wanted to promote me, but could not due to the market manager. The market manager runs the area like his own personal playground, kicking who ever he wants off the team and then finding reasons to justify it. When my manager was suddenly fired after being injured on the job, I applied for the manager job at the urging of my former boss.
I was denied, even though I had been running the store for months while my manager was out with his injury and was awarded store of the month while running it with only three (myself included) employees. The position was given to a person who not only failed phone shops and needed job coaching but who had been a a lower position than me (until my manager got fired) and worked at another store.
Needless to say, it was not a pleasant place to work after that. The NEW manager insisted I help him and show him the ropes, meanwhile he is getting paid huge money, coming and going as he pleases and I am left with everything on my shoulders, without a promotion and back to cleaning piss off mattresses and scraping moldy food out of refrigerators so they can be sold as "Almost New" I quickly found other employment.
The scream job testing and all this other garbage, encourage you to get the money ANY WAY YOU CAN... And then just stick it up your tailpipe if you try to do anything about it. After I got done they have had over three other managers and one guy who was hired, failed the placement testing to be an account manager (That is the entry level job there) has now been promoted to store manager. (Yeah... That built up my self esteem)
That's just my story, and although I can't go into details (pending further investigation) I REALLY REALLY REALLY would like to hear from other employees across the nation who have been treated unfairly or poorly. Please feel free to post here. I would like to hear about other peoples experiences.
