Lazy onsite management wont do any maintenance

I just moved from Los Angeles Californina to be with my other half and to start a new life here in Lansing, Mi. I should have known from the start that we would be having this much trouble with Arbor Pointe.

In september I contacted them because of an add I got off the LSJ web site, town home apartment for rent 2 bedrooms 2baths for $450.00 a month. When I called them to get more information, Arbor Pointe told me that "The add that was posted was an old add and they dont know how to up grade ther adds so they can not honor that price for rent." They then told me that they have a one bedroom for $535.00 a month.

I then let them know that I was interested and it would be for two people and I was relocating from California.
Aftr faxing papers back in forth, with both our names on the lease papers, my other half came to give the deposit of $100.00 on October 24, Arobor Pointe informed him of a move in special $100.00 move in with first month rent free and for an extra $30.00 a month we can get a two bedroom unit. So we went for it, sounds good right?

He then asked if he could look at the unit before handing any money over, Arbor Pointe took him to look at two units but would not let in to look at the inside, Arbor Pointe said" You could try to look threw the blinds but we cant let you in!" He chose a unit sighned the lease and ask when is the move in date, Arbor Pointe informed him that he could move in on the 11th of November so that they may do any maintenance to the unit, carpets, painting and any other repairs that need to be done!

November 11th he came to pick up the keys and start moving in, but Arbor Pointe informed him that he was not on the lease and that they only can hand over the keys to me, (keep in mind that Im still in California). Arobor Pointe made him fill out new lease paper and told him that they cant give him any keys till he passes a back ground check, and that might take any where from two to 5 days and that they cannt doing anything to help because its friday. Luckly that monday they handed over the keys.

Apon moving in on November 14th my other half noticed that nothing has been repaired, replaced or repainted.

Finaly when I arrived from California the day after Thankgiving I was shocked and very upset that nothing was done. The capet has gum, candle wax, burn marks, pet stains, paint and holes all over it upstairs and down. The kitchen, hallway and both bathrooms floors are scratched and cracked to the pointe where the cant even be cleaned, belive me I tried. And to top it off the fridge and stove that was here when we moved in dosent even work. We have been living off of cup a noodles because we can not keep food in the fridge or freezer, and even if we had food we cant even cook it!

On November 27 we took the check off list to the office and let them know what needed to be done, Arbor Pointe informed us "that new carpet has been ordered and that the manager would come by to look at the unit, and if the unit in such bad shape it should not have been rented."

Of course no one showed up for about 3 days, and when he did show he was only here for about 5 min, and asked if we did this to the unit and the walked out.

About one week later we got call from the manager of Arbor Pointe and he asked if we could relocate to a differnt unit, I then asked if he was going to pay for us to move, and to have all the utilites tranfered to new unit and if he was going to rent us a truck and pay us for taking time of work to do this. I still have not heard any thing from him or Brookline Managemnt Co. And it has been about 3 weeks from the last time I spoke with him. I have tried to speak with him a few times but he is never in the office.

We have now with held the rent, contacted Lansing code enforcment department and they have cited Arbor Pointe for for little things like water damage in the upstairs bath room, lights in the basement, the heating ducks and a few cracked titles in the kitchen, but not the main items that need to be replaced and fixed.

Today December 21 I spoke to the ladies in the office at Arbor Point and she informed me that they are only going to fix the things that the code enforcment department put on ther list - nothing eles! I asked her about the carpet that was ordered, she told me that the carpet was never part of any replacement, I asked about switching the fridge with a one that works from a vaccated unit, she informed me "that they couldnt do it and basically its our fault we should have moved when they offered us the other unit." And then hung up on me.

We are living on fold up chairs and a blow up matteress, because we are still waiting on our carpet. If any one that reads this and can help us in any way please do, we just want to start our lives in a clean home for the new year.
