Some time in september or october I recieved a phone call asking me if I wanted to enter a drawing to win some money and I did not have to purchase anything so I did. Aafter they registered me they asked me if I wanted some magazines. Tthey said that I would pay for one year and and get 2 or 3 years free of magazines. They persisted and I finally said okay. They asked me for my bank account number and every month it would automatically take my money out to pay the magazine. When I didn't have any funds to pay for the magazines I had called them and explained my situation. They refused to cancel the account.
I had called on July to cancel my subscriptions to the National Magazine Club which I was receiving monthly but I was denied that because it was said that I had a past due balance.
They then didn't send me any magazines for a month or two. Then they tryed charging me for those two months when I wasn't receiving any magazines at my house. I then proceeded to call again to inquire about my request to cancel my subscription to the National Magazine Club and received the same run by. I told them that I hadn't received any magazine for a while and why they were trying to charge me for something that I wasn't receiving. I explained my situation and why I couldn't make my payments anymore.
Soon after I made that call I then again started to receive the magazines again and more bills. I told them that I wanted to end this so I asked them to please send me a final bill so that I could close that account with them. They kept sending me letters and told me that I had to pay the full balance of $698.88 and said that I owed them a past due balance was $324.48.
They called me one more time on October 3 and told me that I still owed them money and that if I agreed to pay them 2 payments of $193.20 that I would not have 2 pay the $698.88 that I owed them. I asked them if they could call me later so that I could talk it over with my dad and they said that the price would not be the same and later I would have to pay the full price.
They kind of scared me so I told them that I would pay the 1st payment and that in November I would pay the rest. I told my dad that night what I had done and he told me that they are wrong and I shouldn't have gave them any money.
My dad investigated about scams and rip-offs in the computer and he found one about National Magazine Club and told me to call my bank and to cancel the check I sent. That is what I did and I changed my account number and told my bank.
That night my dad called them and told them that we are not paying anything and that to please stop calling our house and if they want to take this to court then do it because he feels strongly about this situation.
